Rachel is a Licensed Professional Teacher in English. She began teaching in 1999 at the Philippine Military Academy as a Civilian Instructor. In 2004, she became an Assistant Professor at the Divine Word College of Bangued, Abra (2004-2012), and later pursued her goal of teaching abroad as an ESL Teacher in Weihai, Shandong (2012-2014). Her stint at the Institute for Tourism Studies began on February 5, 2014. Prior to teaching, she worked as a Speechwriter/Researcher of OMA5, Philippine Military Academy, Writer/Researcher of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Manila (1998), andIbon Foundation, Inc. (1996-1997). She received her Master of Arts in English, Master of Management, and BA Journalism degrees from the Philippines. As a Journalism graduate from the University of the Philippines, she was extensively involved in the student publication of Divine Word College of Bangued (Sparks, Adviser) and the Philippine Military Academy’s staff publication (The Fort Sentinel, News Editor) while performing her teaching duties. She is an Elsevier Recognized Reviewer for the Journal of English for Academic Purposes (JEAP). She also reviews for the Asian EFL Journal,Journal of English as an International Language (EILJ), and the Student Engagement in Higher Education Journal (SEHEJ). Her research interests include second language writing, cognitive processes of writing, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Specific Purposes (ESP), campus journalism, destination image, and intangible cultural heritage.
